St. Mary is pleased to announce Kelsey Bennett as a new middle school mathematics and English teacher.  Kelsey is a native of Fancy Farm and a graduate of Murray State University with a Bachelors in Science in Middle School Education.

One conversation with Kelsey and you sense her love for teaching, but she wasn’t always sure that she was headed for the classroom. When Kelsey entered college, she initially thought she would be an engineer. She loved the math and science involved in engineering but, it seemed everyone she met was encouraging her to teach.  As she reflected on her decision to become a teacher she said, “I believe I was called to teach and God was clearly using the people around me to tell me that.”

Kelsey’s teaching and leadership experience began long before she became a certified teacher. She has helped to lead and facilitate Teens Encounter Christ weekends, worked as a counselor at Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp, and served as a small group facilitator for her parish, St. Jerome Catholic Church.  It was through those experiences that she realized how much she enjoyed the middle school age group.  She connected with them and as she put it, “I don’t know where I would be without my faith and I love to see young people grow in their faith.  I am excited to join St. Mary where I will have the opportunity to help students grow academically and spiritually.”

St. Mary Middle and High School principal, Jennifer Smith, is equally thrilled to have Kelsey’s energy and ideas in the classroom, "We are very excited to welcome Kelsey to our St. Mary family.  Kelsey's love for learning is evident and her enthusiasm is overflowing!"
